Sitges is a small town with world of possibilities! Whether you’re looking for a place to enjoy some some peace and quiet; a launch pad in the heart of town close to the nightlife, or something somewhere inbetween Sitges has places and spaces to suit all tastes, needs and budgets.

Sitges – from High Luxury to Self Catering

Most of the town’s hotel accommodation is focussed on the higher end of the market, with 4* and 5* hotels offering most of the towns 8000 hotel beds.

But staying in Sitges does not have to be expensive, as there are a number of good value options with 1 – 3* hotels and hostels, aparthotels, camping sites and larger apartments on offer. With most hotels boasting 80-90% occupancy during the high season from May through until mid September the most important thing is to choose carefully and book early if you can to secure the best deals.

Sitges Town Centre

Stretching roughly from the sea to the railway station, Sitges oldest and most picturesque neighbourhood extends from just behind the church of Sant Bartomeu to the central square of Cap de la Vila.

In the older part of the town you’ll find the whitewashed walls and narrow streets of the old fishing village, while further out there are the ornate dwellings of the ‘Americanos’ – wealthy Catalans who returned to live here after making their fortunes abroad.

The main town centre is largely pedestrianised, and offers all the essential shops you’d expect as well as many specialist boutiques, There are also a few surprises for a town of this size including cinema / theatres, museums, galleries, parks and a large range of bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs.

As a place to stay it is blessed with quick and easy access to the central beaches and nightspots, but if you;re looking for q auiet getaway during peak season be warned it stays busy day and night!

Party Central!

If you’re in Sitges to party, sun worship and want to be where the action is, look for rooms around the ‘Calle Industria’ area – the square intersecting Sitges ‘Sin Street’ lined with bars, cafes, restaurants and clubs.

This junction is always the centre of attention is a great place to people watch, hang out and soak up the atmosphere around the clock.

For hotels on the main street we’d recommend Parrots Sitges Hotel for comfortable rooms above their popular bars and restaurant, while the minimalist 4* Hotel Alenti also offers an elegant base in the heart of the action and Sitges famous nightlife. A two minute walk off the main street you can also find the slightly more sedate Hotel Subur which has competitively priced rooms many with small terraces and sea views.

Sitges Beachside Accommodation

Sitges long coastline offers extensive accommodation overlooking or next to the sea – although much of the frontline accommodation comes at a premium. Most of the hotels overlooking the sea are located to the south of the Sant Bartomeu church stretching from here along the coast from La Fragata (notable exceptions being the Melia which is perched behind Port Aiguadolc and Hotel Sebastian Playa just on the Barcelona side of the church)

For the ideal party / retaurant / sea view mix the Calipolis offers excellent facilities and can cater easily for large groups, while the Platja D’Or offers a more intimate (and very highly rated) place to stay.

Slightly further – but still only a 15 minutes walk from the centre of town – the Hotel Maritim Subur offers excellent facilities – as well as an outdoor pool and garden.

Sitges Port / Aiguadolc

The area around Sitges Marina is called Aiguadolc, and not only boasts the town’s main port, but also the town’s largest luxury hotel – The Melia. Built around the hill which shelters the marina, many of the residences of this quiet area enjoy panoramic seaviews.

Aiguadolc is a pleasant 10-20 minute seafront walk from the main town centre, which has recently been developed to accommodate pram and wheel chairs (although chair users will not be able to use the pedestrian route all the way to the Marina as there are a flight of steep steps at the Marina-end)

The only downside of this area is that there are very few amenities or shops – but if you choose an apartment here you can always buy groceries online.. and if you’re staying at the Melia, well, that has just about everything you could ask for!

The Melia is the main hotel here, but if you are looking for apartments, try to find one on the street behind, which have postcard views of the old fishing village roofs, the port and of course the sea!

Poble Sec Neighbourhood

Behind the railway station, Poble Sec is a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Sitges, and although it doesn’t have many hotel rooms, you can find reasonably priced apartments for short-term and long-term rental. The neighbourhood is well equipped with a range of small shops, convenience stores, supermarkets, bakeries, grocers, play spaces; a library and the local healthcare centre.

Although there are not many restaurants of tourist attractions in Poble Sec, it is only a short walk from the centre and has the advantage of being both quieter and better value than the centre, especially if you are looking for an apartment with multiple bedrooms.

Sant Sebastian, Sitges

The area between the train lines and Sant Sebastian beach is predominantly residential and offers a quiet, but still very central location – close to all Sitges shops and life – but without being in the middle of the tourist zone during peak season.

The streets are leafy and most houses are small collections of flats – with 4-6 families in each. This area has one main hotel – The 4* Playa Sant Sebastian, located right on the front over looking the bay between the old village and the hill leading to the marina of Aiguadolc.

Other than the hotel, accommodation in Sant Sebastian is mainly made up of privately rented flats, with the notable exception of the Bonanza Hostel – a small place with budget rooms tucked close behind Sitges famous cemetery.

Sitges’ Vinyet Area

The Vinyet area of Sitges is most famous for the highly ornate decorative and expensive houses which line it’s south-east edge on the seafront. This is the barrio of the rich and famous – or at least their enormous second (or third) homes! The streets here are broad and leafy – but the pavements tend to be in poor condition as no-one uses them – and there is little in the way of shops or bars as each abode tends to be a kingdom in its own right!

With few flats and just a couple of hotels, Vinyet offers a quiet, luxurious apartments with a lot of space – but at a price. If you are looking for peace and quiet and luxury… this could be for you!

Vallpineda / Levantina / Los Bovilas

These newer residential areas are a fair walk from the center – although they are also served by regular local bus services during the day.

Offering peace and quiet, there are no hotels, and in terms of local colour and amenities however the provision is quite limited, and there are few bars and places open Sundays and during siesta.

There are no major hotels in these neighbourhoods, but the god news is that prices per square metre for rentals are significantly less than in the main town, and you there’s more ikelihood that you will find a place with a pool or some private outdoor space and maybe even a garden and barbeque
