For a small town Sitges has it’s fair share of museums, celebrating the town’s history, culture and contribution locally and internationally. Sitges museums provide spaces for special events and exhibitions and are an integral and vibrant part Sitges cultural life, as well as being a popular tourist destination.

Sitges Museums – Open For Business!

The Cau Ferrat and Maricel museums in the old town have also just reopened after an extensive 4 year renovation project – modernising the facilities and restoring many of the exhibits, whilst maintaining the charm and character of these unique and emblematic buildings.

All four of the main Sitges museums are located within the old town and are within short walking distance of each other. For tours and special events booking in advance is strongly recommended!

Casa Bacardi, Sitges MuseumCasa Bacardí

Celebrating the local Bacardi family and their famous rum, this museum’s permanent exhibition tells the story of local man Facundo Bacardi, an ‘Americano’ who left Catalunya for the ‘New World’ to seek his fortune, and went on to create one of the world’s most famous brands.

The tour includes samples of the good stuff and a class in mixing a cocktail to savour on the terrace.

The museum can also be rented as a venue for events and celebrations, and offers special cocktail masterclasses by appointment.

Opening Times: Friday, Saturday and Sunday with guided tours in English at 16:00 / Catalan on Saturday at 19:45 and Sunday at 12:00. Groups are small – and reservations strongly recommended!

Museum Maricel de MarMaricel, Sitges Museum

The Maricel de Mar is a unique museum set in the heart of Sitges overlooking the oldest part of the town and also enjoying outstanding sea views.

Housing an impressive collection of Spanish art the museum dates back to the early part of the 20th century when American art enthusiast and millionaire Charles Deering fell in love with Sitges, decided to live here and assemble around him one of the finest private collections of Spanish art.

Although Deering is long since gone, his legacy lives on and today the museum maintains an impressive collection of exhibits spanning many centuries and styles, including modern Catalan sculpture, medieval art, 11th century murals, Renaissance furniture and works by Modernisme’s grand masters.

Fundació Stämpfli – Contemporary Art

Located in the historic centre of the town Sitges Contemporary Art Centre sits next to the Ajuntament building and houses a permanent collection incorporating 80 works by 55 artists from 22 different countries.

In addition to their permanent collection Fundació Stämpfli also hosts temporary exhibitions from selected artists / genres in a variety of media – adding a more modern element to Sitges Museums’ offerings.

Museu Romàntic (Can Llopis)

This museum is housed in the former mansion of the Llopis family which dates back to 1793, and was originally donated to Sitges in 1935.

As you walk through the doors you will be transported back to the world of a wealthy Sitges family, surrounded by the everyday artefacts of a bygone era.

The second floor houses a collection of toys and dolls left to the museum, and in the summer outdoor concerts and screenings are often organised in the museum’s shady gardens. This is one of the more popular Sitges museums for families.

Sitges, Area of Calm and Museum DistrictMuseu Cau Ferrat

Santiago Rusinol’s original Moderniste temple to Art, the Cau Ferrat museum was bought by the artist and converted into a space for his collections and studio before being officially opened to the public as a museum in 1933.

The permanent exhibition includes an extensive collection of wrought iron work as well as Catalonian, French and Central European artefacts and artwork from the 12th to the 19th century; 14th century ceramics, glasswork, and most famously drawings and painting by masters such as Ramon Casas, Pablo Picasso, Arcadi Mas Fondevila Isidro Novell, Hermenegildo Anglada-Camarasa and many more.
