Festivals and Events Throughout the Year!

All through the year Sitges enjoys a wide range of traditional and innovative festivals, events and attractions, ensuring visitors and residents an enormous choice of things to do.

Combined with Sitges famous microclimate with 300 days of sun every year; excellent transport links to Barcelona, Spain and beyond; first class indoor and outdoor venues – and you begin to understand just why Sitges prides itself as the perfect ‘Town of Festivals’

Sitges Main Events

Los Reyes – The Three Kings Come to Sitges (January 6th 2014)

The first big event of the New Year is on the 5th of January with ‘Los Reyes’ / Les Magi and a visit from the Three Kings – Melchior, Balthazar and Gaspar – and their entourage, ready to deliver presents to Sitges eagerly awaiting children. The Kings arrive in all their medieval finery, escorted by cavaliers, maidens and helpers. A rich evening of pageantry and celebration, the children can also visit the Kings and deliver their requests as they take up residence in the Ajuntament a few days before.

Sitges Carnival – Spain’s Biggest Party! (February 25th – March 5th 2014)

Sitges is the venue for Spain’s biggest party as Carnival comes to town! Festivities commence on Fat Thursday (Dijous Gras) with the triumphant arrival of King Carnestoltes in Sitges – ready, willing and determined to start the party with a bang!

With children’s parades, traditional celebrations and many other activities, the main focus for visitors is around the Debauchery and Extermination parades on the Sunday and Tuesday, when thousands of participants create a river of sequins, feathers, music and dance through the streets of Sitges.

Barcelona to Sitges Antique Car Rally (2 March 2014)

Owners and admirers of antique cars take to the streets of Sitges as the rally of old automobiles winds. honks, splutters and rolls it’s majestic way towards the end of it’s rally from Barcelona to Sitges. With owners and passengers dressed in finery from the heydays of their cars’ history this day commemorates a bygone era of motoring and elegance.

Sitges Corpus Christi Flower Carpets FestivalCorpus Christi (June 19 – 22 2014)

The flower carpets of Sitges are world-famous, and this festival is recognised nationally both for its cultural significance and it’s importance as a tourist event

Local residents design and create enormous floral carpets using hundreds of thousands of carnations to compete for the honour of being judged the year’s most beautiful carpet. Combined with a national carnation event and bonsai exhibition the festival day culminates the Sitges ‘gegantes’ dancing over the petals accompanied by local musicians playing traditional instruments and tunes.

Of All Sitges Festivals and Events Gay Pride is the most GLAM!Sitges Pride (June 18 – 22 2014)

One of Sitges biggest parties, as the town plays host to this year’s Gay Pride event – a relatively new festival which has quickly grown and developed a huge reputation!

With a mini-village with stage shows, concerts and other events on the front, bars, clubs and restaurants all joining in the celebrations the fun climaxes with the grand procession on the Sunday.

Sitgestiu Cultural (July – Oct 2014)

Organised by the Museums of Sitges this programme of events encompasses a wide range of activities including the popular Jazz, Guitar, Harp and Opera concerts in the Romantic Museum gardens, pocket Opera in the Maricel, guided tours and full moon dinners! The agenda this year has been extended to include a number of new events to

Markatu Sitges Festival DrummersSitges Festa Major (19 – 25 August 2014)

Over three days this is one of Sitges unique festivals as the town celebrates its patron Sant Bartomeu. There are a range of traditional events including ‘Sardanes‘ (Catalan dancing); ‘Castellers‘ (human towers) and ‘Carrefocs‘ (processions with fireworks, fire-breathing dragons, drums and music!) The firework display from the church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla is enormous, and worth finding a space on the beach early to get a good view!

Sitges Bear Week (5 – 14 September 2014)

Bears and their admirer’s from all over the world head to Sitges for just over a week of festivities and events. Down by the sea a bear village with a soundstage and bars is erected on the Passeig de la Ribeira and the party roams all over the town’s bars, clubs and restaurants.

Santa Tecla Festival (20 – 22 September 2014)

A traditional festival honouring Santa Tecla, the patron saint of Sitges main church.

Street parades, music and dance fill the streets with an enormous firework display lighting the sky on the Sunday. This is a relaxed celebration when the people of Sitges count their blessings and commemorate their traditions and heritage.

Sitges International Film Festival (3 0 12 October 2014)

The 47th edition of Catalunya’s biggest and brightest international film festival, and visitors come to pay homage to the wilder and more wonderful aspects of the movie industry. The event focusses on the fantastic and horrific – this year with a particular focus on the realm of dreams… But please book your tickets early as popular shows can sell out fast!

Sitges ‘Verema’ – Vintage Wine & Food Festival (11 – 12 October 2014)

Sitges official wine harvest celebrates it’s 53rd anniversary with a range of events, competitions, tastings and gourmet offerings. At the front there is a ‘Mostra de Vins‘ where a variety of local Garraf and Penedes vineyards showcase their vintages together with other organisations offering talks, masterclasses with a range of other activities organised across the town.
